A summer afternoon near Argenteuil, painted from below and fast, with the wind doing half the work. The woman is Camille Monet, the boy is their son Jean, seven years old. Camille died four years later, at thirty-two. Monet returned to the motif in 1886 with a different model and left her face blank. This is the version where she still looks back.
